    Karyopharm Therapeutics is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel first in-class drugs directed against nuclear transport targets for the treatment of cancer and other major diseases. We are building a finance team that will develop the capabilities to support potential launches of our lead compound in two indications over the next eighteen months.


    This position will assist in the financial management and business partnership support of R&D & G&A teams as well as overall corporate planning.  The Manager is expected to help teams understand and manage their underlying resource requirements.  The Manager will develop both budgets and models associated with clinical trials and associated support activities.  He/she will also assist in process and system improvements to enhance visibility into financial performance and increase financial management efficiency. This position reports to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, R&D.


    The Finance Manager will work closely with R&D and G&A functions to accomplish the following:

    • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic reforecasts.
    • Analyze monthly departmental and project related results vs. budget or forecast; develop and disseminate standard reporting packages.
    • Ensure that teams understand their performance relative to those budgets and assist them in making course corrections where necessary.
    • Work with the clinical and accounting teams to develop accruals and improve processes around such accruals.
    • Manage the review, approval and execution of clinical vendor and consultant contracts and purchase orders.
    • Address issues with vendor contracts, billings, forecasts, etc.
    • Coordinate with HR to ensure updated headcount plans reflected in financial forecasts
    • Proactively identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiencies and submit recommendations.
    • Budget and reporting support, as required, for the G&A organization
    • Ad hoc assignments and responsibilities as necessary.


    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics, or a demonstrated quantitative finance background.
    • 2 – 4 years’ experience supporting R&D Finance within the clinical research/biotech/ pharmaceutical industry.
    • Proven knowledge of clinical operations and clinical project management processes and how they interact with finance.
    • Possess outstanding analytical, communication and organizational skills.
    • Strong modeling and data management skills in Microsoft Excel; proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to multi task in a fast growing rapid paced organization.
    • Good time management skills and a willingness to go the extra mile.
    • High self-motivation, multi-tasking ability, and keen attention to detail are required.
    • ERP / purchasing system implementation a plus; experience with MS Dynamics GP, R&D Logic, ReQLogic, Concur, other purchasing systems also advantageous
