Role Overview & Key Functions:

We are looking for a personable, practical legal advisor with an understanding of the False Claims Act; Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act; Anti-Kickback Statute; and other healthcare laws and regulations.  You will have high visibility throughout the organization, supporting core business activities and providing counsel to cross-functional teams.  You will be empowered to develop strong and positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels.  Experience in pharmaceutical / life sciences advising, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and willingness to be a flexible, business-oriented team player are required.  The Brand Counsel role reports to the Vice President, Legal & Chief Compliance Officer. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Partnering cross-functionally to provide legal advice related to Marketing and Market Access, including brand strategy, promotional materials, and patient support initiatives 

  • Partnering with Medical Affairs to advise on strategy, scientific exchange, and field medical materials 

  • Fostering a culture of compliance in Karyopharm’s interactions with healthcare professionals, including development of policies and delivery of effective training initiatives  

  • Providing legal advice as a member of cross-functional teams including product development program teams, promotional and medical review committees, and grant and investigator-sponsored trial review committees 

  • Communicating legal advice to business stakeholders in an authentic and understandable way 

Candidate Profile & Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate and MA Bar admission (or eligibility for in-house counsel admission) 

  • 8+ years legal experience, including experience advising pharmaceutical or other life sciences clients is required.  In-house pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred 

  • Deep understanding of applicable laws and regulations, particularly the Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act 

  • Experience advising on application of advertising and promotion principles  

  • Experience with state price reporting or privacy matters preferred 

  • Proven ability to counsel clients effectively 

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple, conflicting priorities while managing a substantial workload 

  • Proven ability to execute on complex projects and lead them to successful completion 

At Karyopharm, base pay is one part of a competitive total rewards package that includes comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and more), equity and the potential to receive annual target bonuses. Actual pay is based on factors such as location, experience, skills, education, and internal equity. We maintain broad salary ranges to reflect market conditions and the specialized nature of our work. The anticipated base salary range for this position is $200 K –$230 K USD.
